Todos Santos is a Pueblo Mágico with surf culture, mezcal bars, and a legendary hotel. Here's why it belongs on your itinerary.
The Mystique of Todos Santos
On a map, Todos Santos sits 45 minutes north of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific coast. In spirit, it's a world away. This Pueblo Mágico — one of Mexico's government-designated "magical towns" — has long attracted artists, surfers, and the kind of traveler who finds Cabo too loud.
Hotel California
The Hotel California is Todos Santos's most famous institution — and no, it's not the Eagles song. The colonial-era inn has been trading on the mistaken identity for decades, but it's genuinely worth visiting. The rooftop bar at sunset, with the Pacific breeze and a cold mezcal margarita, is one of Baja's essential experiences.
The Art Scene
More than fifty galleries operate within walking distance of the main plaza. The best are concentrated along Calle Legaspi and Calle Centenario. Thursday evening openings are the social event of the week.
Finca Roja
The standout restaurant in Todos Santos — possibly in all of Baja. A desert garden setting, open-fire cooking, and a natural wine list sourced from small Mexican producers. The aguachile is the best version of the dish I've eaten anywhere.
The Surf
Cerritos Beach, 10 minutes south of town, is one of Baja's most consistent breaks. The wave is mellow enough for beginners but fun enough for intermediates. Several outfitters run lessons from the beach.
